3 More Photo Apps Moms Need Now

A few months ago I decided to share 3 of my current favorite photo apps for moms.

One of my absolute favorite parts of mobile phone photography is that it’s always evolving. There are always new tips and techniques to try, new ways to stretch your creativity, and new apps out there to play with.

So I’ve decided to bring you a second installment today with ‘3 MORE apps moms need now’.

These are just a few of my current favorites I’ve been learning to play with in our daily creative adventures. I’d love to know in the comments if you’ve used these three, or what your current favorite app is!

1. VSCOcam

VSCOcam

I’ve known a lot of photographers who use this as their go to editing app. The ability to adjust exposure, contrast, and color is easier than many apps I’ve seen, and there are several pre-made filters available within the app too. However I have always found their interface a bit clunky so for editing I tend to gravitate toward the Apple only app PicTapGo instead. However, I recently learned an AWESOME feature of this app from a client of mine (Jen at Songbird and Bear Photography) who uses this app to actually TAKE her photos. By using the camera within this app you can separate your exposure and brightness functions. Simply open up the camera, tap on the screen twice, and move the two red dots around to your liking. I’ll definitely be playing with this feature more in the coming weeks now that I know it’s there!

2. Diana

On a whim last week I registered for a week long phone photography class with Vivienne McMaster. I’ve been a long time follower of hers and am inspired by her work in self-image, self-portraiture, and self-discovery. The class (called Double Exposure Love) is a creative endeavor diving into creating inspiring double exposures images using our phones. (A double exposure is essentially taking two photos such as a portrait and a landscape and layering them together to expose them twice). I’m already inspired to play more with the tools and knowledge she’s imparting onto us and this app is the one we’ve been using the play with double exposures and experiment with our creativity. If you decide to try this one out…be sure to play with the random filter button, it’s a bit addicting to watch how a pair of photo change! (don’t say I didn’t warn you…)

3. Print Studio

PicMonkey Collage

Another huge goal for me this year is actually making time and space to print all these fabulous photos I’m snapping. Print Studio is my go to phone photo printer for two main reasons. 1) I can print directly from my phone which makes it super easy to squeeze in while I’m waiting at soccer practice, preschool dropoff/pickup, etc… 2) The options for products available from the app are varied and unique. In the past I’ve ordered their magnets but I’ve now got my eye on some of their framed prints and poster prints to hang and display around my house.

If you’re local to me (Washington DC suburbs) and are looking for a fun, casual afternoon out learning about phone photography while sipping wine and enjoying sweet treats, my next live ‘Snaps & Sips’ class is scheduled for Sunday June 7th from 1pm-4pm at the Creek’s Edge Winery in Lovettsville, VA. I’d love to share my love of phone photography with you and inspire you to capture even more amazing photos with the camera that’s always with you, your phone.
